Created by John R. Dilworth for Cartoon Network, Courage the Cowardly Dog is an American animated comedy horror television series produced by Dilworth's animation studio, Stretch Films. The show follows the adventures of Courage, a easily frightened but kind dog, as he navigates through bizarre, often disturbing, and supernatural situations with his elderly owners, Muriel and Eustace, in their isolated farmhouse in the fictional town of Nowhere, Kansas. Courage was abandoned as a puppy after his parents were sent into space by a veterinarian, and was found and taken in by Muriel, who named him for the brave nature he exhibited in their initial meeting. Muriel and Eustace sometimes use tactics to scare Courage, with Eustace often calling him "stupid dog", despite Muriel's attempts to protect and care for him. The series is known for its dark sense of humor and surreal atmosphere, as well as its frequent and frequent supernatural themes.
