Despite her public image as a sweet, bustling old woman with a Deep South grandmother stereotype, she is actually a malevolent and foul-mouthed old crone behind the scenes, often terrorizing her three sons, Walt, Larry, and Igner, and using them for her dirty work. Mom also has a romantic history with Hubert J. Farnsworth and was previously married to Dr. Ogden Wernstrom. Her given name is revealed to be Carol in "The Tip of the Zoidberg" and in the episode "Leela and the Genestalk", she works out of "Momsanto", a floating castle and genetic engineering facility, which is a reference to Monsanto, a well-known American agricultural company specializing in genetic engineering of plants.
