John A. Zoidberg, known simply as Zoidberg, is the incompetent staff doctor at Planet Express, a Decapodian who is a parody of modern doctors. Despite his poor understanding of human medicine, he is the crew's doctor and is frequently homeless. His character is a parody of the supposed wealth and automatic respect of doctors and contains references to Yiddish culture, as well as the fact that shellfish are not kosher. The crew is often repulsed by Zoidberg's habits, but he remains oblivious to their true feelings. However, he sees Hermes Conrad and Bender as friends, even though Hermes dislikes him the most. Zoidberg briefly becomes a hero when he saves Earth from enslavement to his own kind. He also has ambitions to be a comedian, but he is entirely unsuccessful in this endeavor. In "That's Lobstertainment!", his uncle advises him to give up on comedy and finance a film instead.
