About Misty
Misty, also known as Kasumi in Japan, is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and owned by Nintendo. Misty is depicted as a Gym Leader in several Pokémon video games, specializing in Water-type Pokémon. She was also a protagonist in the early seasons of the Pokémon anime, traveling with Ash Ketchum and Brock/Tracey in their quest to become the world's best Pokémon trainer. Misty eventually left to run the family gym in Cerulean City before resuming her journey after Ash became World Champion. Misty appeared in the Pokémon Adventures manga and has been voiced by different actresses in various languages, including Mayumi Iizuka in Japanese, Rachael Lillis and Michele Knotz in English, and Ji Mi-Ae, Lee Chi-Hyeon, Kim Hyeon-Ji, and Yeo Minjeong in Korean. The character was designed by Ken Sugimori as a gym leader, initially intended to be the third gym leader battle in Pokémon Red and Blue, but changed to the second gym leader for the game's final release. Sugimori's concept sketches depict Misty as a young woman with red hair tied into a side ponytail, often shown wearing a two-piece swimsuit to fit the theme of her gym and its swimming pools.
