About Richard Daniel 'Rick' Sanchez

Rick Sanchez, a character from the popular Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty, was created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. Voiced by Roiland for the first six seasons and then by Ian Cardoni, Rick is a misanthropic, alcoholic scientist inspired by characters from popular movies and comic books. He is known for his reckless and nihilistic behavior, pragmatic moral ambiguity, and pessimistic personality. In the series, Rick C-137 is a mad scientist who has experienced trauma and loss, dedicating his life to hunting down his parallel self, Rick Prime. He has developed inter-dimensional travel and personally built a wall around the segment of the multiverse where he is "The Smartest Man in the Universe" to narrow his search. His vendetta leads him to massacre countless alternate versions of himself before eventually resigning himself to failure and retiring. Despite his flaws, Rick goes on a series of adventures with his son-in-law Jerry and teenage grandchildren, Summer and Morty Smith. Over the course of the series, events lead to Morty and Summer having children of their own, adding further complexity to Rick's character.
