Auntie Whispers is depicted in an intriguing and distinctive ensemble that exudes an air of both mystery and simplicity. She is cloaked in a voluminous, dark cloak that drapes around her figure like a shroud. Beneath the cloak she wears a black dress, though one covered in mud from her work outdoors, contrasting sharply with her fair complexion, and with a heavy fabric, suggesting it is as much about function, possibly to ward off a chill, as it is about form. A cream or light beige bonnet frames her face, falling in soft folds on either side of her head, which not only adds a touch of lightness to her appearance but also seems to carry a hint of a traditional or possibly old-fashioned influence in its design. Her oversized eyes and cheerful smile add a touch of oddly unsettling warmth and approachability to her otherwise enigmatic aura.
About Auntie Whispers
Auntie Whispers, voiced by Tim Curry, is Lorna's guardian with a large head and eyes. She carries a golden bell that can control the evil spirit inside of Lorna, and is the caring and compassionate sister of Adelaide of the Pasture. Despite knowing a way to save Lorna from the evil spirit, she kept it secret out of fear that Lorna would leave her, as she has come to love her like a daughter. Auntie Whispers often eats black turtles. Her appearance and way of speaking can give off the impression that she is evil, leading to misunderstandings in episode/chapter 7. In reality, however, she is a gentle woman who is genuinely concerned for Lorna. Her initial coldness and distrust towards Wirt and Greg is due to her vigilance and fear of the evil spirit inside of Lorna, leading her to refuse to take Lorna to a doctor despite knowing she was ill. Unlike her sister Adelaide, who appears kind but is in fact evil, Auntie Whispers is simply protective and wary of outsiders.
