Dale Gribble is an eccentric character voiced by Johnny Hardwick in the TV show. He is the Hills' chain-smoking neighbor and makes his living as an insect exterminator. He is a close friend of Hank, though his conspiracy theories and schemes often irritate him. His appearance was modeled after Hunter S. Thompson, and he frequently assumes the alias "Rusty Shackleford." Dale is the president of the Arlen gun club, a licensed bounty hunter, and a passionate supporter of Second Amendment rights. Despite his vast knowledge of firearms and military matters, Dale's physical strength and aim are lacking compared to the other characters. Unbeknownst to Dale, his wife Nancy has been cheating on him with John Redcorn for 14 years, resulting in their son Joseph strongly resembling John Redcorn. However, despite everyone else knowing this fact, they decide not to tell Dale due to his trusting and loving relationship with Joseph and Nancy, as well as the fact that Dale has been more of a father figure to Joseph than John Redcorn has.
