About Lydia

Lydia is Johanna's mother and her grandmother, and also a former human who became a fairy. In the tie-in book "Hilda and the Fairy Village" and in Season 3 of the animated series, Lydia is first introduced as a shadowy figure in "Chapter 2: The Fairy Mound" before being formally introduced in "Chapter 8: The Fairy Isle". As a child, Lydia lived in a cabin built by her father, where she met fairies Astrid and Phinium. Despite the rule against fairies interacting with humans, Lydia and the fairies became close friends. When Lydia and Phinium grew up, they fell in love, married, and had a daughter, Johanna. When Johanna became severely ill, the doctor said she would not survive. In desperation, Phinium and Lydia made a deal with the Fairy Entity, agreeing to exchange Johanna's life for her service to the Entity on her tenth birthday.
