Preston Northwest is a character in the animated series Gravity Falls, known for being the husband of Priscilla and the father of Pacifica. He takes great pride in being a descendant of the town's alleged founder, Nathaniel Northwest, and enjoys flaunting his wealth. Along with Priscilla, he supports Pacifica's rude behavior, but he is ultimately revealed to be even more ruthless and callous than they are. Preston is shown to be merciless and manipulative, seeing others as tools to be used for his own benefit. He is controlling, emotionally abusive, and indifferent to the well-being of others, even willing to sacrifice the lives of fellow wealthy individuals in order to preserve the Northwest family name. He also uses a bell to control and manipulate Pacifica, showing that he sees her as nothing more than a means to maintain the family's reputation. In contrast to the initial perception of him, Preston proves to be extremely cunning, argumentative, and traitorous, displaying a complete lack of empathy and care for anyone outside of his own interests. This dark side of his character contrasts his outward appearance as a proud and wealthy descendant of the town's founder.
